Woof.

March 12, 2018 by Merecedes Nelson

Hi, it's been a minute. Let me take a bit to update y'all on some of the magical, weird, and/or dumb stuff that's been going on in my life.

Back in October of 2017 the coffee shop I work at, Coffea Roasterie, asked if anyone was interested in competing in a Barista Competition, and lil' ol' me had vaguely heard of such things but didn't know exactly what it entailed, but I figured it sounded fun so I volunteered to compete.
I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into, and soon preparation for this competition sort of took over my life when I realized how intense these competitions actually were.
I'll make another post another time all about my trip to New Orleans and the magical and insanely stressful but beautiful experiences I had competing in my first coffee competition.

Anyways, 2017 ended with me feeling stressed but passionate and a little scared of what was to come in 2018 but mostly excited.

2018 seemed to start in a whirlwind of interviews that I was totally not prepared for but tried to just take everything in stride. Word was getting around about the competition and it seemed to be kind of a big deal so I was interviewed by siouxfalls.business as well as a lovely interview by Bryan Aukerman for Coffea's website! Meanwhile I was also contacted by 605 magazine to do an interview about my photography for their "Meet The Artist" feature for the February issue, which was honestly so, so cool and I'm pretty sure my mom now has at least 50 copies of that issue.

Now that the competitions and interviews and general insanity of everything surrounding the barista competition has ended, I've been trying to focus on what's next. Recently my facebook account was hacked and apparently deleted or something. I can't get back in and if you search for me my profile no longer shows up. My photography page 'Doedeer Photography' is still up; however; I do not have access to that either, and while it was an incredibly frustrating and violating situation, I'm feeling so much more inspired and productive without facebook, so that's why I'm here, writing this. I've paid for this website for so long and never taken full advantage of it. So now I'm going to be actually updating this regularly, letting you all in on the magical things I'm working on and experiencing in both art and coffee.

Oofda, thanks for reading!

I've just updated the Strange Nature gallery here on my website, if you wouldn't mind taking a peek and checking out some sweet, sweet tiny animals.
I'm in the process of moving (not out of Sioux Falls, just even more downtown than I already am) and would really appreciate any purchases of my art now more than ever, so head on over to the contact section to let me know if you wanna buy anything or just wanna chat!

Thanks for caring about me and my art and the scene~

I'm excited to use this space to be able to share so many rad things I am working on and be able to speak my thoughts out a bit more!
