Narco States, The Coax, and Bodega Sushi

Here's some photos from a rad show at TOTAL DRAG the other week

The Coax

Up first was local babez, Bodega Sushi

Bodega Sushi

The Coax came from Minneapolis as they kicked off a 60 day tour in support of their new album called "Total Drag".. And yeah. It's inspired by our rad lil' all ages venue here in Sioux Falls.

The Coax

And Narco States, another killer Minneapolis band, finished off the night with some rad, fuzzy psych rock.

David Dondero, Meriwether Raindelay, and Micah Kittelson

It was stupid cold outside last thursday, but that didn't stop Total Drag from filling up quick with all sorts of people drawn by the allure of an incredible folky, singer-songwriter kind of night. David Dondero is an incredibly talented and magical human and I'm so glad he came back to SIoux Falls to play some music for us. Seriously go check out his music!

Before David Dondero took the stage, we had a few local acts playing some beautiful music to tug on your heart strings, like Meriwether Raindelay. I would be lying if I said I've never cried during one of Troy's sets.

And opening the night was our friend Micah Kittelson with some lovely songs. This was the first time I've seen him perform with someone else and though he sounds great by himself, the percussion element added another level to his songs that felt more full and balanced. Great as always.

My Top 10 Albums of 2016

I posted my top ten last year so I figured I should make it a tradition on here considering most of my photography/life revolves around music anyways. So, here's my opinion on the raddest of the rad albums that came in 2016:

1. Crystal Castles - Amnesty (I)

2. Tobacco - Sweatbox Dynasty

3. BRONCHO - Double Vanity

4. The Coathangers - Nosebleed Weekend

5. STRFKR - Being No One, Going Nowhere

6. So Pitted - neo

7. Hooded Fang - Venus On Edge

8. Ty Segall - Emotional Mugger

9. Chairlift - Moth

10. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity

Uh, yah. Super rad. I feel like next year will be better though. Lookin' at you, Gorillaz..

"Idle Worship and Ill Will Towards Man" the first EP released by locals GREEN ALTAR

Some of my photography has been used again for a killer local band's album cover, and it looks pretty awesome. If you haven't listened to Green Altar before, do your earholes a favor and check 'em out. Sludgy, heavy, melty stoner metal at its finest, locally grown in Sioux Falls, SD. The photo used for the album cover is from my "Cycles of Decay" series focusing on the documentation of the bodies of animals I found and how they went back into the earth once more..

Super Moon

Super Moon

The EP release show was on Nov. 26th, 2016 and some of Green Altar's pals came to help celebrate, like the gnarly dudes in Super Moon out of Omaha, NE who started the night off.

The heaviness continued with Naive Sense from Minneapolis, MN. and it was the fuzzy, in your face, angry punk music that I think we lack so much in Sioux Falls. They killed it.

And last, but of course, not least, GREEN ALTAR played an incredible, electric show that sent shivers down my spine. The good kind. It was heavy and intense and created an energy in the room that made you want to bow down before the altar....
